*   On Friday 27th October, there was a large crowd in attendance at the presentation evening, upstairs in the Ballymartin Inn for the Éire Óg U-16 Championship winning team.  A big thank you to Connaire Harrison and Peter Fitzpatrick who were on hand to present the lads with their medals.  This was a great night with an exceptional group of young lads, who have developed and matured immensely over the past season.  The coaches wished the best to the lads that will move on to minors next season and were proud that they were there to mentor and guide them.

*   On Saturday 28, in the Down GAA All County Division 2 League, the Ballymartin Seniors were away to Liatriom.  The lads pulled out the stops and came away with a great win over a tough opponent.  Final score; Liatroim 1-08 vs. 2-11 Ballymartin.

*   Last Sunday in the County Down Ladies U-14 B Championship Final @ St John’s, we witnessed 2 great teams slogging it out to the very last kick of the game.  Ballymartin could not find their form at all in the 1st half and quickly found themselves trailing by 6 points to nil.  Only for Gemma making some super saves and Amy, Eve, Kerrie, Linden, Tara and Una defending relentlessly this game could have been over by half time.  A well taken long range - Grainne Cunningham goal sparked life in to the Whites, but RGU cancelled this out with a goal of their own to give a half time score:1-06 to 1-00.  The second half was not for the faint-hearted and both teams gave it their all again.  RGU scored first with a point.  Ballymartin replied with a well worked Amy McClelland goal, Holly Trainor point and Natasha Rooney point.  The Whites now had RGU in their sights, only to concede another goal.  Trailing by 5 and with time ticking away, most teams would have folded, but not this fantastic bunch of girls.  Our midfielders Orla and Amy worked tirelessly throughout.  Abbie and Brogan got involved in everything up front.  With the ball rebounding off the crossbar, Grainne with a cool head palmed a great goal to the net.  Holly followed up with another good point to trail by just one.  In the last minute of normal time, RGU scored their last point to lead by 2.  But the Whites dug deep and believed in themselves. Nadine and Orla worked a one-two, passed the ball to the incoming Amy McClelland who drove the ball to the top-corner.  Deep in injury time, the ‘Whites’ led for the first time.  Nadine slotted over the final score to finish off a heart-stopping encounter, and win by 2 points; Ballymartin 4-04 vs. 2-08 RGU.  Credit must be given to a gallant RGU side who displayed some excellent football throughout.  The management cannot praise these girls enough for their passion and commitment to go unbeaten all season and win a County U-14 B Championship and a County U-14 B League.  Team: Gemma McAlinden, Eve Quinn, Amy Higgins, Kerrie Hanna, Linden Haughian, Tara Rooney, Una Keenan, Amy McClelland (2-0), Orla Quinn, Natasha Rooney (0-1), Brogan O'Hare, Abbie O'Hare, Nadine Eakins (0-1), Grainne Cunningham (2-0), Holly Trainor (0-2), Aoife McCombe, Shannon McCartan, Katie Trail, Teagan Magorrian.

*   On Saturday 04 November, in the Down GAA All County Division 2 League, the Ballymartin Seniors are away to Pettit Park, Rostrevor, with a 14:00 throw-in.

*   Lotto Numbers for Sunday 29 October 2017 were; 05, 09, 13, 31.  There was No £11,700 jackpot winner, there were SEVEN tickets to matched 3 numbers; Jarlath McKibbin, Peter Collins, Emma Hanna, Nan Byrne, Antoinette Harper, Teresa + Hazel & Veronica Murney each receive £15.  If you’re NOT in, you CAN’T WIN.  Tickets are available for next week’s Lotto draw which has now climbed to a healthy sum of £11,800, available from various local sellers and outlets including; Raffertys Garage, Dunnaman Shop, Cunningham’s Butcher, Molly's Bar, Linda's Shop, First & Last and The Ballymartin Inn.  If anyone can spare one Sunday Evening a month to help check tickets, the club would be very grateful.  If you would like to put your name forward for the Lotto Rota, please give your name to Marie McKibben on 07802344253.

*   On Wednesday 26 (July), The U-14 Girls host RGU Downpatrick, throw-in is at 7.30pm.  With the U-14 Bryansford girls unable to field a team last Sunday, Ballymartin received the points.  The Girls were disappointed as they were looking forward to the re-match after their last great game between these 2 sides.  The void was filled with a good training session to shake off the holiday fatigue and in preparation for tonight's (Wednesday), re-scheduled fixture at home.

*   On Friday 28th July, in the Down GAA All County Football League Division 2; Ballymartin are on the road to take on Darragh Cross with a 19:30 throw-in – Referee - Ciaran Mooney.  Last Friday 21st, the lads had a great game robbed from them.  The lads played with passion and were ahead most of the match.  First half goals from Ryan McLovin and Peter Fitzpatrick had the ‘Whites’ a goal ahead at the half.  The lads maintained their lead through too, what should have been the last ten minutes of regular play.  However, with no injuries of note, the game was extended by what appeared to be some seven plus, additional minutes.  During this extended play time, the Ballymartin lads started to lose composure with frustration creeping in as time ticked on, and in the last minute of extended play (66 minutes on the play clock), Carryduff came up the field and scored a point for a draw.  This was a terrible outcome from a team that lead the match for most of the game.

*   Eire Óg’s final road to victory.  This past number of weeks Eire Og U-14s have been quietly chipping away at a very competitive league, and whilst entering the last three games with all to play for, they knew it was not going to be an easy path.  on Monday 29th May Eire Og entertained a very strong Annaclone side in Ballymartin.  On a perfect evening for football the team turned-in, an outstanding performance and by half-time lead by a convincing margin.  In the mid-field both Cormac’s (Greene & McComb), worked tirelessly taking scores and providing crucial passes to allow others to score.  Up front Tom Higgins and Eoin McVeigh were always a threat, both ended the evening with multiple scores.  With outstanding performances from a very slick back line Sean Kelly, Darragh Rooney, Caolan Smith (Vincey), and Jack Mc Veigh were well able for all Tullylish could muster.  Up front, Ollie Thompson was introduced for Aiden Rooney and as always added to the already increasing score line, Owen McCartan came in for Tom Higgins and within minutes had added two points from play, Eoin Smyth replaced Curtis McAteer and got stuck in right from the off, winning possession and passing under pressure to allow Owen McCartan in for a few scores, with an exceptional team performance Eire Og came away convincing winners in the last quarter.  Eire Og 7-24 vs. 2-07 Annaclone.  On Thursday 1st June, Eire Og entertained St Michaels in a game which had some great passages of play well taken scores and a few physical battles in pursuit of the ball.  Again, with the mid-field pairing of Cormac & Cormac who tirelessly covered the field, knew this was the game to wrap up the league title.  Up front Curtis McAteer was given a roving role and at times was back helping in defence and making tireless runs to allow options for kick outs.  With Eoin Mc Veigh and Tom Higgins in fine form, their ball winning, interlinking play and score taking was again a crucial part in the final winning score.  As in the previous game, Aiden Rooney who had just been available from the previous match was unlucky not to have been on the score sheet but had a fine game providing some great linkup play to put others in to score.  Darragh Rooney move to half back along with Jack Mc Veigh, both again put in sterling performances and Darragh seemed to relish a role which afforded him the option to move further up the field and to be a score maker.  As always, with positive play and timely interceptions Sean Kelly marshalled the full back line and ensured no one got an easy path to Eire Ogs goal, partnered on this occasion by Nathan Brennan who slotted in and made nothing easy for the opponents both lads put in a mighty shift.  Back between the post from the previous match Nathan Buckley made some point-blank saves and his distribution from kick outs was second to none, with a finishing score line of 5-17 VS. 0-02 St Michaels, this was the game that clinched the league title.    On Monday 5th June saw the final game of the league away to Tullylish.  With weather conditions not suiting either team and having been presented with the league trophy before the match it was always going to be hard to get refocused on the game in hand.  In a game that was littered with dubious decisions yellow cards and sliding tackles which resulted in Cormac Greene being removed from the game early in the first half with two broken bones in his wrist.  Eire Og knew the outcome of the game was not going to matter and with their sights set firmly on the championship resided to play out the match in hand.  Whilst taking their foot of the gas the final score line only had a differing margin of 3 point to Tullylish.  From a management point of view, this team has great ability and showed great resolve during the season to date and we look forward to a good run in the Championship.

*   Last Saturday 10 June, in the Down GAA Reserve Football Championship - Sponsored by Eamonn Rooney Coach Hire, The Ballymartin lads played tooth and nail to fall short by one point during their away match with Drumaness.  Final score: Drumaness 2-18 vs. 2-17 Ballymartin.   The next outing for the Reserves is set for Sunday 25th June, away to Clann na Banna with a14:00 throw-in.

*   On Wednesday 14 June, in the Down Ladies U-12 League, Ballymartin will be on the road to Carryduff for an 19;00 throw-in.
