*   Ballymartin GAC are proud to support the work of St Columban’s Kilkeel and cover Club Coaches who attend the quality line-up at the Coaching Clinic!  All GAA coaches and managers are always looking that extra edge.  Well, this Saturday November the 15th, Steven Poacher, Head of PE in St Columban’s Kilkeel will give you that opportunity with the Annual and well renowned “St Columban’s GAA Coaching Clinic.”  The focus of the clinic will look at two themes, (both outdoor practical sessions,) one delivered by Queens GAA Games and Development manager Aidan O’Rourke and based on the theme “Building elements of a game-plan into training sessions” and a second session, delivered by current Down & Kilcoo player and Trinity College GAA Development officer Conor Laverty based around “Developing Attacking Play in your team.”
This is surely one of the strongest line-ups at any coaching course held in the province and one of the finest St Columban’s have had with two of the most innovative and tactically astute coaches in the modern game with a wealth of both playing and coaching experience.  Coaches will get an opportunity to witness a top class practical session lasting approximately 90minutes and geared towards implementing a game-plan into their training sessions, something very important in the modern game, delivered by Aidan O’Rourke and a panel of players. After a short break for tea/coffee and refreshments, coaches will then be treated to another practical session where one of the most intelligent Forwards currently in Ulster football and an astute coach at Sigerson cup level, Conor Laverty, will pass on his knowledge in a number of games/drills which will enhance attacking play in your team. Finally, coaches will then have an opportunity for a short question and answering session with the high level coaching guests.
The event is open to all coaches of any age level be it school, club or county or any code as the games and drills on show will be easily transferable to both Camogie and Hurling. The day commences at 10am on the Saturday morning 15th November and the cost of the day is £10 which can be made payable on the day and includes, tea/coffee and an information booklet with sample training sessions. It’s certainly an information packed morning not to be missed and proceeds from the day will go towards the development of GAA within the school. NOTES:

*   The Ballymartin Lads had a long arduous road to the Final: 2014-06-12 IFC R1 WIN 2-10 vs. 0-9 Darragh Cross, 2014-08-17 IFC WIN 0-12 vs. 1-06 Shamrocks, 2014-09-08 IFC QF Win 0-20 vs. 2-11 Liatroim, 2014-09-20 IFC SF DRAW an Riocht, 2014-09-26 IFC SF Replay WIN 0-17 vs. 2-10 an Riocht.  Then on Sunday past they were faced with a mountain.  This was Mount CPN, 2014 League winners Cumann Pheadair Naofa.  Congratulations to Cumann Pheadair Naofa, they were the stronger team and it would appear they weren’t fed all week, cause they were wild hungry!  They came out and ran the ball to Ballymartin’s Patrick Greene and slotted the ball between the post with relative ease.  Non the less gracious in defeat, Ballymartin had a tremendous run in both league and Championship.  A job that has laid a great foundation for the 2015 season.  Congratulations to Paul Higgins, Eamonn McEvoy, Charlie Doyle, Darren O’Hanlon and Liam Byrne.  To the players, you did your club proud, the Trocaire IFC Final against the League winners was a big task from a small rural club, you had everything to gain and nothing to loose and you gave it your best.  To the supporters, what else can one say, your there for your club week in and week out.  We look forward to the 2015 Season.
*   Ballymartin U-16 ladies were unlucky in their quest for a Championship Final Win.  Although the result was not in their favour the young ladies played a brilliant game and gave 100%.  Burren were put under pressure from the start, Declan and Claire were blown away by the Ballymartin spirit, determination and skills displayed in front of a large supporting crowd, the girls as always are a credit to their families, respective clubs and Ballymartin.  Declan and Claire would like to thank the girls and their families for the support and commitment shown this year.
*   The U-13's concluded their short autumn league last Saturday with a convincing win over Mitchell's. Despite a defeat in their opening game to overall league winners Longstone, the Baileglas lads take runner up spot having remained unbeaten since, with wins over Clonduff Ogs, Drumgath, Atticall and Mitchell's. We'll done to all Ballymartin panelists: Keelin Kearney, Conor Cunningham, Ryan Higgins, Matthew Cunningham, James Quinn, Cormac Greene, Paul Quinn, Morgan Buckley, Sean Quinn, Ronan Smyth, Ryan McAlinden and Stephen McDonald.
*   The U-11s had their last game of the season at home on Sunday morning and with some brilliant passing of the ball and excellent teamwork they recorded a convincing win. This brought the team their 3rd win out of 4 games and resulted in them being presented with league runner up medals.  This was a just reward for this young team who gave 100% at each training session and during every game.  Training is now finished for this season and will re-commence early in the new year in preparation for the U-12 league.  The mentors would like to thank all the parents for their help and support throughout the year and also to the players who gave a good account of themselves every week.
*   Lotto Numbers for Sunday 12th October 2014 were; 1, 6, 14, 16.  No Jackpot Winners – Next LOTTO Jackpot £10,100.  Three lucky tickets matched three numbers.  Congratulation to all the lucky winners; Seamus Rooney, Andrea Rooney & B. *   Congratulations to the Four Masters team visiting from Donegal, to play the Ballymartin ladies (Down Intermediate Football Champions), in the Ulster Intermediate Clubs Championship.  The Ballymartin Ladies did themselves proud, although loosing to the physically stronger ‘Four Masters’, they fought tooth and nail, through strong gusting winds and a hard hitting defence, they never gave up.  This was never to be an easy match for Ballymartin.  But if the Ladies didn’t win on the field, the ‘Ballymartin hospitality’ won off the field, with tea & sandwiches for the weary travelling supporters before the match, too, soup and sandwiches afterwards when they came in from the cold.  The final score was Ballymartin, (Down) 2-04 vs. 3-14 Four Masters, (Donegal).

*   The Ballymartin Committee and Club wish every success to Jim Mc Corry as our County Senior Football Team Manager, which was recently announced by Coiste Chontae an Duin.  We wish him all the best on the commencement of the 2015 season and the upcoming draw for the Ulster Championship.
*   Well what a week for Ballymartin GAC.  Firstly congratulations to the Down Ladies team and their management for a very successful campaign that saw them lift the Ulster Cup “Ulster Champions” and the TG4 All Ireland Intermediate Final “All Ireland Champions”.  Too, the two stars from Ballymartin; Sinead Brannigan in goals and Lauren Cunningham centre-half forward.  What a great performance and how proud we all are of your achievement and success through-out the year and past years on the Down panel.  This is a very proud day for all in Down.  ‎An Dun Abu.   ‬
*   For the Ballymartin Seniors and their great fight and show of strength and determination, during their Trocaire Down GAA IFC Semi-Final replay with An Riocht on Friday evening past.  To come fighting back after the restart at half time, trailing behind with the score line Ballymartin 0-10 vs. 2-09 An Riocht, a five point deficit.  Ballymartin pulled the rug from under An Riocht.  A total shut down for the An Riocht offence, holding them to a one point tally on the scoreboard over a 36 minutes of play.  Where does one start: Mid-field, Big Peter Fitzpatrick and Cathal Doyle, both giving a great performances and both knocked up two points from play.  Then there’s the wee man up front; Ryan O’Hare, with no less than eleven points attributed to the score line.  The man in goals Wee Patrick Greene, yes two goals got past him, but he’s the last line of defence and when that’s taken into account, Our Paddy made three great saves that made the game Ballymartin’s to call victorious.  In the back half Owen Collins, Michael Higgins, Noel Kerr, James (Captain) and Adrian Doran along with Austin Crawford, had their hands full and legs worked off them, preventing or at least slowing down Noel McArdle and John Clarke.  In the front half the speed and elegance of Ross Cunningham and Rory Phillips on the ball allowed Ciaran O’Hare and John Fitzpatrick, along with Matthew Phillips to make the plays, giving the ‘GoToMan’ Mr Ryan O’Hare to keep knocking the balls over the bar.  The squad was assisted by Substitutes; Jonathon Cranston (who had a marvellous game on the front line), along with Ryan McCullagh and Paul ‘Pablo’ Fitzpatrick.  This was a great turn-a-round from the first half display and the lads did us proud, holding the opposition to one point in the second half.  Ballymartin finished the match 0-17 vs. 2-10 An Riocht, and proceed to the Final Sunday 12 October.
*  The opening match on Friday past in the Down GAA Reserve Football Championship - Final Replay was a great performance by Bryansford 2-10 vs. 1-07 Clonduff.  Congratulations to Bryansford and their Management.
*   Tonight (Wed), in the South Down RFL Ballymartin travel to play Clonduff  at 7:30 with Extra Time available.  Referee: Gregory Mc Grath.
*   The Baileghlas U-13s travelled to Clonduff on Saturday past and drew with Clonduff in a very strong and competitive match in the South Down U-13 League Div 3, Round 3.
*   The Baileghlas U-11s travelled to Mayobridge on Sunday morning and came away with a convincing win Mayobridge 0-08 vs. 6-10 Baileghlas.   This was a brilliant display of skill and passing of the ball from Baileghlas and well deserving of the win.  This was good to see the hard work that’s done in training paying off for the boys.  Training continues on Thursday night from 6pm until 7.30pm.  The next game is at Glasdrumman, against Burren on Sunday morning 5th October, details will be given at training.

NOTES:

*   Congratulations to Ballymartin’s Peter Collins who won the All Ireland Squares and scooped a nice pocket full of change.  Thank you to all who supported this fund raiser.
*   Well everything was looking good on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon, with the opening match in Pairc Esler was the Trocaire IFC Semi-Final; Ballymartin against neighbours An Riocht.  From the opening whistle the lads took control of the game and within four minutes Ballymartin had secured a goal.  However the big competition of the game was between Ballymartin’s Michael Higgins and John Clarke of An Riocht, whom neither of them let up and within the seventh minute An Riocht had found the net slipping the ball past Paddy Greene, and tying the score 1-02 each.  The score line stayed stagnant for the next six minutes until Ballymartin placed one over the bar.  Fourteen minutes into the game and An Riocht found the net again to take the lead for the first time by one point (2-02 vs. 1-04 Ballymartin).  The scores were few and far between and on the fifteenth minute An Riocht took the lead with another goal.  Ballymartin rallied back on the twentieth to fill the An Riocht net and take the lead by two points, the half ended with Ballymartin maintaining their two point advantage: 2-08 vs. 2-06 An Riocht.   Fifteen minutes into the second period and Ballymartin leading by four points when Ballymartin’s Mid-fielder Cathal Doyle went up for the breaking ball, with the An Riocht player going underneath him, Cathal took a nasty landing - we hope he recovers and has no serious injuries.  The pace slowed down some in the final quarter, with Ballymartin scoring only three points and allowing the kingdom to get back into the game and securing a draw, by giving away a free in the dying minute of the match.  Final score was 2-14 a-piece.  The rematch takes place this Friday evening in Pairc Esler.
*   This Sunday sees two Ballymartin ladies; Lauren Cunningham and Sinead Brannigan, take centre stage in Croke Pairc, when both girls will line out for Down Senior Ladies in the All Ireland Final!!  Good luck to all the Ladies and to the Ballymartin contingent who will be travelling DOWN with the Underage Girls to show their support.
*   Ballymartin lotto Numbers will be drawn on Monday evening due to the All Ireland Final taking place.

*   The Seniors had a great ‘Trocaire Down GAA IFC Quarter-Final’ match last Monday evening in Pairc Esler when they played and defeated Division 1 team Liatroim.  This was a great game filled with spirit and a lot of ups and downs.  Ballymartin Came out strong and although it took five minutes to score, once they started they never let up.  At one point Ballymartin were six points ahead and dominating the play on all fronts.  Then ‘out of the blue’ Liatroim filled the Ballymartin net with a smashing drive from Middleton, leaving Big Paddy Greene stunned, so shocked was Paddy that he let one more slip past within a minute or so of play.  Ballymartin went into the half trailing by a point (Ballymartin 0-09 vs. 2-04 Liatroim).  In the second half Ballymartin made sure they weren’t going to falter, Big Paddy made a tremendous save and with Cathal Doyle and Ryan O’Hare both notching up five points a piece the lads had secured their Semi-Final spot; Final score Ballymartin 0-20 vs. 2-11 Liatroim, with Ballymartin creating seventeen scores from play!  They now meet An Riocht in the Semi-Final on Saturday 20 September in Pairc Esler @ 5PM (Referee: Fearghal Laverty), as part of a double header: Longstone vs. Burren @ 6:30PM (Referee: Paul Falloon).
*   On Sunday past the Reserves clocked up a win against Mayobridge in their Round 9 of the South Down RFL, winning a in spectacular fashion, when past County Player and current Club Manager Mr. Paul Higgins dawned the Ballymartin Jersey and came on as a sub and filled the back of the Mayobridge net to secure the win.  Paul commented that “If Mickey thinks he’s the only one that can play from ‘the era’, well hello Scoreboard”.  After the Referee (Neill Cousins), blew the final whistle - Ballymartin 4-09 vs. 4-04 Mayobridge, leaving the player - coach with a big smile on his face.  This finishes the RFL with Ballymartin sitting on top with 9 wins and only one loss during the season.  Congratulations to the Coaches and Players for a great effort all year!

*   Unfortunately the Ballymartin Ladies Ulster match against Four Corners Donegal was cancelled over the weekend due a dispute in the Donegal finals.  This match has been postponed until approx the first week of October 2014.
*   U-16 ‘B’ Ladies Championship Semi-Finals too place on Sunday past, when Ballymartin hosted Rostrevor in a thrilling and nail-biting competition.  Pat’s Road was up to its usual tricks with strong and gusting winds, which gave the Ballymartin girls the glory in the first half as they played with the wind and going to the break Ballymartin led 4-02 vs. 1-01 Rostrevor.  After the switch and playing into the wind the girls ran out of steam, with a the ball only travelling 20meteres into the gusting wind it was hard to maintain possession.  To this we have the ever-present Erin Rogers and the strong willed Taylor Poland along side Katie Smith and Laura Cunningham who kept the ball moving forward.  With assistance from Orla, Ciara and Naimbh, Ballymartin had to fight tooth and nail to keep Rostrevor from out scoring them.  This job was left to the brave Fiona Cunningham who made several brilliant saves that ultimately kept the ‘Whites’ in the lead.  The Final score Ballymartin 4-04 vs. 3-05 Rostrevor.  This was a great performance by all including the ever smiling Claire and Declan.  The ladies will play the winners; either Burren or St. John Bosco who played on Monday evening.
*   Lotto Numbers for Sunday 14th September 2014 were; 3, 5, 14, 31.  No Jackpot Winners – Next LOTTO Jackpot is a massive £15,100.  SEVEN lucky tickets matched three numbers.  Congratulation to all the lucky winners; Fergie Larkin, Hugh Greene, Celsus O’Hare, Paul McLoughlin, Dean Spence, Jarlath & Mary & Colin Trainor.  This Sunday 21st September Lotto Rota: Team Leader; Colin Cunningham; James Doran, Paul Higgins, Peter , Fitzpatrick (Jun), Karen Cunningham, Madlene Collins, Ward, Peter Collins, Lorainne Rooney.

*   The U-14 girls were beaten in the U-14 ’B’ Championship.  A great big THANKS! goes out to all the girls who made a big effort to be there especially the U-12 girls who were invaluable on the day and without them we would not have been able to field a team.  Declan, Claire and Frances are grateful for all the hard work and good luck to any girls moving on to U-16's next year and we welcome any new girls ready to take a place next year.
*   The U-12 Girls travelled to Saval last Thursday evening to play out a  tough yet thrilling league game.  Ballymartin got off to a great start scoring at will against a very physical Saval, where they had to earn every free and score they got to lead 2-06 to 0-01 at half time.   The second half was very scrappy and the lead was soon narrowed to 2-6 to 2-4.But  these girls dug deep and were not leaving without the points.  Every player gave it all as the game neared completion and managed to put 2 more points on the board to win by four points.  This was a great test of character for this young bunch of girls and they really did stand up to the mark yet again.  Well done Girls.

*   Attached Image: Ballymartin U-10 @Atticall Tourney_DSCN0390.jpg   Caption: This group of happy U-10s had a great day out at the local Atticall U-10 tournament recently, where they competed magnificently against strong opposition until getting narrowly defeated at the Semi Final stage of the Shield Competition.  A great day was had by all and as you can see they played with a smile on their faces, as always. Well done to you all!

NOTES:
*   Congratulations to the Down Ladies Team who defeated Leitrim on Saturday by three points in the All Ireland Semi Final.  Congratulations also to Ballymartin Stars; Sinead Brannigan and Lauren Cunningham ,who both played vital roles in securing the Semi Final Championship win in Cusack Park, Mullingar.  Final score Down 1-16 vs. 2-10 Leitrim.  Next up is the big day in Croke Pairc on 28 September 2014, LGFA - TG4 All Ireland Championship!  An Dún abú
*   The Ballymartin Seniors had a good result on Friday at home to Clann na Banna In their Round 9 match of the O'Neills Down ACFL Div 2.  The Final sore line: Ballymartin 2-20 vs. 1-09 Clann na Banna.  The lads next outing is in the Trocaire Down GAA IFC on Monday 8 September in Páirc Esler, Newry with a 7PM throw-in and Referee: Paul Falloon.
*   The Reserves have two matches upcoming after last weeks matches were postponed.  Their first is on Wednesday (Round 10), 1o September in the South Down RFL (13 a side), were they travel to Pettit Park to play Rostrevor with a 6:45PM throw-in.  This is followed on Sunday 14 September (Round 9), when the lads host Mayobridge @ 2PM.
*   The Down ACMFL Section B (15 A-Side), Saul vs. Baileghlas on (Tue) 26.08.14 was postponed, this was compounded with the Down GAA Minor FC Group D - Baileghlas vs. RGU Downpatrick on (Tue)26.08.14 was postponed.   No date has been set for these as yet.
*   Massive Disappointment on Thursday night for the U-16s, after they took a heavy defeat to a stronger Atticall team.  The lads started well but unfortunately Atticall got on top half way through the first half and kept it till the end pulling further and further away.  Good luck to Atticall in the Championship Final as they aim for league and Cup Double.  On a personal note I want to thank Geoffrey Greene and Colm Grant who helped me for the year but more importantly each and every one of the lads who turned out for the U-16s this year. They are a pleasure to work with and a credit to their parents, family and their Club as they are well mannered and there wasn't one harsh word from any of them all year no matter what I asked from them.  They reignited my passion for Gaelic football again just being around them.  Thank you Lads; Aaron Sloan, Callum Fitzpatrick, Conor McRann, Corey Forsythe, Dominic Grant, Ethan Birnie, James Cunningham, Matthew Cunningham, Niall Greene, Owen Shields, Ronan Grant, William Higgins.
*   U-12’s On the last weekend of U-12 football the Baileghlas boys were in action on both Saturday and Sunday.  Saturday saw them take part in the Gerry Burns Tournament in St Johns and what a brilliant display of football these young boys produced.  They emerged from the group stage and into the Semi-Final of the shield where they faced a strong Shamrocks side.  Both these teams were up for this game and showed just why they had got to the Semi-Final stage.  Baileghlas fought hard and battled for every ball and when the final whistle blew it was them who were victorious and into the Final against Aughlisnafin.  This was a repeat of the 1st group game that had ended in a draw and so it was a nail biting Final.  Baileghlas gave it their all but unfortunately it was not to be… and they lost by only three points.  The boys can take heart from their performance and can be proud of themselves.  They played brilliant football and their passing and moving of the ball was a joy to watch.  Thank you to St Johns for the invitation to take part in their tournament and for the welcome refreshments and it was a great day for football.  On Sunday morning the last league game of the season took place at the quarter road pitch against table topping An Riocht.  This was always going to be a tough game but Baileghlas looked lively from the start and led by a goal and a point at half time, however, An Riocht, came out the stronger of the two teams in the second half and ended up winning the game.  The final score does not do justice to Baileghlas and just goes to prove that football is quite literally a game of 2 halves.  Well done to all the Baileghlas boys, you were a pleasure to work with both at training and during matches.  You always gave 100% to your mentors and did yourselves and your Clubs proud each time you pulled on your jersey.
*   Next up is the under 11 league which is due to start on Sunday September 14th.  Training for the U-11s will take place at the quarter road pitch tonight (Wednesday) from 6pm until 7.30pm, it is important that all eligible U-11 players attend training so that the mentors can get an idea of what numbers they have to work with.
*   The Ballymartin U-10 squad who attended Attical tournament on Sat 23rd Aug.  They had a great day of sport and thanks to the Atticall Club for both their invite and hospitality.
*   The Ballymartin U-16B Semi Final Championship takes place on Sunday 14 Sept, with Ballymartin being awarded home advantage against local rivals Rostrevor.  The throw-in time is set for 12:30PM (E.T. *   The Ballymartin Ladies U-14B Quarter Final Championship takes place this Sunday 7 Sept @ 12:30PM (E.T. *   Attached Image: BallymartinLadiesWin_IFC_Final_DSC0761.jpg   Caption: Ballymartin’s Erin Mc Dowell finishes the game with a last minute goal passed from Niamh Rogers over/off the Burren keeper into the Erins hands and into the net.  As the Ballymartin ladies jump for joy the Burren girls drop their heads, but they played on for one more minute giving their all.

NOTES:
*   Congratulation to the Loughinisland girls who lifted the title in the Junior Championship Final, Saul 1-08 vs. 2-07 Loughinisland.
*   Congratulation to the Ballymartin Ladies on winning the Down Ladies IFC Final.  In the dying minutes from the final whistle the Ladies pulled away from a defeat to win by two points after putting one in the back of the Burren nets.  Ballymartin 3-07 vs. 1-11 Burren.  A job well done after a year of good solid hard work and determination.  Thanks to Connor Annett for putting the Ladies thru their paces all year! And it goes to show that hard work and determination pays off!  Thanks to the Ballymartin Inn for hosting a celebration night after the win on Saturday.  Commiserations to the losing side Burren, you had the ‘Whites’ on the run most of the game and a good game it was.  Ballymartin will play the Donegal Champions at home on Sept 13th in Ulster, looks like we are in preliminary round.  If Ballymartin win we will go on to play the Fermanagh Champions on Oct 5th away in Quarter Final.
*   The Senior men had an uphill battle in their Round 3 IFC match against An Riocht on Saturday evening, one that they could not pull the reigns back on.  They play in the O'Neills Down ACFL Div 2 this Friday at home against Clann na Banna with a 7PM throw-in.
*   The South Down RFL Round 9 sees Ballymartin hosting Mayobridge @ 2PM this Sunday 31 August with a 2PM throw-in.  Referee: Darren O Hare.
*   Great effort from the Minors. The young lads have given everything they have all year and this match against a much fancied An Riocht team was no different.  The lads gave 100% and had the hosts on the ropes in the first half only to concede an unfortunate goal late on to go in all square.  In a blistering 15 minute period the An Riocht team scored 2 more goals and three points to pull way.  The Whites came back well towards the end and finished up with four points but the damage had been done.  This ends their interest in the Minor Championship but they can be proud of their effort in the last two weeks against two strong teams and all the best to An Riocht in the rest of the Championship.
*   U-16 lads play Atticall tomorrow night in the Longstone as part of the “Down GAA U-16 Football 'E' Plate”, Semi Final.  Throw-in is at 6:45PM with Peter Brannigan refereeing.
*   The U-14's bowed out of the championship last week following a quarter final defeat to a strong An Riocht side. Special thanks to the parents of Ryan Higgins and Keelin Kearney who brought their children home from their holidays in Donegal for the game. There are no more competitive games for the U-14's this season, but the group will be getting together in a couple of weeks to conclude the season and to prepare those still U-13 for a forthcoming short autumn league.
*   The Baileghlas U-12s travelled to Bosco on Sunday morning to face a Bosco side who had won the previous meeting between the two.  after a tough 1st half it looked as if Bosco were once again going to take the points as they were leading 5 points at half time.  this was not to be the case, though, as the Baileghlas lads upped their game in the 2nd half and were worthy winners of the game by 1 point.  The 2nd half of this game is how football should be played, with brilliant passing of the ball, good movement, excellent teamwork and discipline.  Brian in goals was once again outstanding making some terrific saves, the backline of Ryan, Ronan, Sean and Darragh were strong and disciplined in defence, midfielders Eoin, Cormac McComb and Oran battled hard and won the majority of the breaking balls to supply the forward line of Martin, Steven, Connaire and Cormac Green who used the ball well and took their scores convincingly.  This was a good team effort and deserving of the win.  Well done boys!  Training continues on Thursday night at quarter road pitch from 6pm until 7.30pm.  It is important that all players attend training this week as we have a tournament in St Johns on Saturday and the final league game on Sunday at home to An Roicht.  Times for both will be confirmed at training.  The Baileghlas U-12 team and mentors wish Rory all the best in his studies in Carlisle and thank him for all his help this year.  His input and enthusiasm in both training and matches was invaluable to the team and he will be missed.  The  South Down U-12 Football League Division 2B has Baileghlas hosting An Riocht @ 11AM on Sunday 31 August in Glasdrumman.  Referee: Daithi Young.
*   The U-10s had a great day at the Atticall tournament on Saturday.  Starting off against a strong Shamrocks ‘A’ outfit they were narrowly beaten.  This was followed by a convincing win against Atticall ‘B’ side taking them on to the Quarter Finals of the shield.  With their best display of the day they had a great win over a strong Aghaderg squad.  This brought them to the Semi Finals where they were narrowly beaten by Drumintee.  This group of players showed fantastic skill and determination on the day namely: Daniel, Eve, Amy, Thomas, Aidan, Orla, Nadine, Nathan, Eoin and Cara.  We would like to thank Atticall for the invite and for hosting such a great tournament.
*   The U-16 Ladies had a good win over Bosco on Sunday, Ballymartin 3-09 V 1-04 St John Bosco.
*   The U-14 B League sees the Ballymartin girls travel to Burren tonight for a 7PM throw-in.

*   Down GAA Minor FC Group D Round 1 saw Baileghlas claim a Draw when they played Away to Saval.   SAVAL 3-05 vs. 2-08 BAILEGHLAS.
 *   Baileghlas U-12s had a home  match against Rostrevor on Sunday morning and with a few key players missing this was going to be a tough game for Baileghlas, however, each player stepped up to the mark and gave their best performance of the season so far to win by 10 points.  (BAILEGHLAS 3-9 V 1-5 ROSTREVOR).  Well done boys, all your hard work in training was evident and paid off for you.
*.   Congratulations to the Ballymartin ladies with their defeat last week over Bright I. The Intermediate Championship quarter Final BALLYMARTIN 1-13 V 1-09 BRIGHT.
*   After a three week rest the U-12 Girls travelled to St Johns Bosco Wednesday (23 July), evening with a very depleted squad due to holiday committments. This gave a great opportunity to try out players in differrent positions and everyone without exception stood up to the mark. After a strong first half, Ballymartin looked very comfortable, but Bosco raised their game early in the second half to narrow the lead. This spurred our young players to dig deep and run out easy winners in the end against a very sporting Bosco side. Next up Warrenpoint at home tonight at 7 pm.  Last week the U-12 girls had a very sporting  home fixture with Warrenpoint last Wednesday evening which was end to end stuff  for the entire 30 minutes. Both teams played some great football , with the 'Point leading at half time by a goal. Unfortunately straight after the break we conceded two quick goals which left the girls with a mountain to climb. But with a never say die attitude they really fought hard and showed some great skill , hunger and determination, but came off second best losing by a goal. The girls should take great heart from this game for the effort they put in, and for producing another good all round team performance.

*   Baileghlas U-12s had a home game against Longstone on Sunday morning.  With a few key players missing from the team this was always going to be an uphill battle for the boys.  A good game of football ensued but it was the visitors who were victorious. As there are no more league games until 3rd August training will change to a Sunday morning at the Quarter Road pitch from 11am until 12.30.

*   U-14 Ladies next match is on 5 July at home to Kilcoo.

*   The U-12 girls had a home game last Wednesday evening against a physically strong Saval side.  From the off our girls were up for it and were resolute in defence and clinical in attack, stringing together some great passages of passing football from one end of the field to the other.  The home side ran out comfortable winners with a scoreline of Ballymartin 5-13 vs. 2-05 Sabhall.  These girls really seem to enjoy their football and it is great to see another few additions to the  panel ,making the girls now compete more for a starting position and giving even more of a choice from the sideline.  Next up, theU-12 Ladies host Clonduff tonight in Ballymartin @7PM.  Next week they are away to St. John Bosco.

*   In the first Round of the Down GAA Intermediate Football Championship - Group A, on Thursday (12 June), the Ballymartin Senior squad played Darragh Cross in Downpatrick as part of a double header, were Glasdrumman met and comfortably defeated Teconnaught by five points (1-14 V 2-6), in the opening match.  Ballymartin took control of the game from the onset with Ryan O’Hare and John Fitzpatrick hitting their target successfully and Young Fitzy finding the net four minutes into the match, after James Doran won the Darragh Cross kick-out (dispite being fouled), he played on through two tackles before Cathal Doyle dropped the ball in-front of the square and John finding the netting.  The play continued with Ballymartin controling the pace and mid-field action with Darragh Cross 0-3 vs. 1-05 Ballymartin at the interval.  The second period continued as the first with Ballymartin controlling the mid-field and showing grreat burst of smart play on the ball, this led to Noel Kerr scoring Ballymartin’s second goal ten minutes into the second half.  This resulted when Damien O’Halon was injured and the resulting free played into the hands of Big Pete Fitzpatrick in the mid-field who found Noel Kerr making a break and tore through the defense with only the keeper to beat.  If the Ballymartin lads hadn’t maintained their disipline and kept control of the game the Darragh Cross lads would have walked away with a win as there were some terrible descision made from start to finish, but with good communication between coaches and players the best team proved that with the right attitude you can pull yourself from the clutches of defeat and be triumphant with a full-time score reading: Darragh Cross 0-9 V 2-10 Ballymartin.

The Baileghlas U-12’s had a busy weekend, starting with taking part in the Gary Murray Tournament in Clonduff on Saturday morning.  The team were up against some tough opposition in the group stages however they did enough to get from the group stage and into the quarter final of the plate where they faced Rostrevor.  A brilliant display of football and determination from Baileghlas saw them win the game and into the semi final against Saval.  This unfortunately was to be their last game of the day as Saval proved too strong opponents.  The Baileghlas team can take heart from their performance and know they did themselves proud as Saval went on to win the plate competition on the day.  On Sunday morning saw an away game against a strong An Riocht side.  An Riocht proved in the first half of the game why they are league leaders, however, Baileghlas came out stronger in the second half and played some brilliant football.  The lead An Riocht had in the first half was too much to overcome and it was the home side who were victorious on the day.  Well done to the Baileghlas lads, the perserverance and grit you showed in the second half of that game was a credit to you all.  U-12 training continues on Thursday evening at the Quarter Road pitch from 6pm until 7.30pm.  The next game is a home game against neighbours Longstone.  Players to be at the Quarter Road pitch at 10.15am on Sunday morning.
